Here is something fun to do if you have some free time to spare. Inspired by an existing web project that supports Windows 95, 98, and a whole host of the older operating system, Slacker developer Felix Rieseberg has published the source code and app installers for this project on Github, and apps like Wordpad, phone dialer, MS Paint, a Minesweeper all run like you’d expect. The only thing that doesn’t work is the ancient version of Internet Explorer but who cares.
Here is how you can get on it.
Head over to the project on Github, and download the setup version or the portable standalone version right from the Assets section. The download size is only about 140MB so it’s pretty quick to finish and get you up and running.
If you download the setup version, double-click the executable file and go through the setup process.
But if you like me, prefer the portable version whenever is possible, extract the content out of the zipped file and simply run the Windows95.exe file to launch the app.
You may be prompted by the Windows Defender SmartScreen warning window during the launch. klikněte More info odkaz, a Run anyway button to bypass the warning.
The main window pops up. klikněte na tlačítko Start Windows 95 button right at the center of the window and start enjoying the journey.
You can use the Esc key to capture and lock/unlock the mouse when needed.
